Johes Tyson (1530-1614)

12th Great Grandfather

Johes Tyson was born in 1530 in Kirkburton, Yorkshire, England (Johes is pronounced Johns) was my 12th great grandfather. Johes wife Joanna Boothe my 12th great grandmother is believed to have been born in the Netherlands, but I’m not certain of this. She was the daughter of Catarina Jacob van Montfoort and Domenicus Boothe. When their son Johes was born, both parents were 30 years of age.

Tragically, four members of Johes and Joanna’s immediate family, their daughter Dorothy age 48, and sons Henry age 46, Edmund age 43, and John age 40, all died of the Plague that hit England in 1608. Different strains of the "Bubonic" plague would intermittently resurface in England for the next several decades up until the late 1660’s and take the lives of thousands. This plague is eerily similar to the Covid 19 pandemic today (2019-2021) that has taken the lives of millions across the globe, and over 600,000 and counting here in America.

Johes died on February 26, 1614 at the age of 84. He survived his wife Joanna by fourteen years as she died on April 6, 1600 at the age of 66. Both Johes and Joanna died in Almondbury, Yorkshire, England but buried in nearby Danby, Yorkshire, England.
