Johannis Tyson (1500-1562)

13th Great Grandfather

Johannis Tyson was born in 1500 in Kirkburton, Yorkshire, England. Kirkburton is a village, civil parish, and local government ward in the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire, England, about 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Huddersfield, in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the township comprises the villages of Kirkburton and Highburton and several hamlets, including Thunder Bridge, Thorncliff, Storthes Hall, Burton Royd, Riley, Dogley, Common Side, Causeway Foot, Lane Head and Linfit.

In the years between the 1500’s and 1800’s the Kirkburton population grew to only 1,400 inhabitants, and its current population is only numbers about 5,000. 94.6 % of all inhabitants of Kirkburton today were born there.

Johannis Tyson married Elizabeth Kettlewell who was also born in Yorkshire in the year 1500. Johannis passed away in 1562 at the age of 62, while records for Elizabeth suggest she may have died in 1614, surviving her husband by 52 years, and making her 114-years-old at the time of her death. My 12th great grandmother Elizabeth is buried somewhere in Placé, Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, France. This French connections of hers is intriguing but to date I’ve found no other connection, but I’m actively searching for additional information you can best believe.

Johnannis and Elizabeth's son Johes (pronounced Johns) is our next direct-line ancestor. Johes was born in the year 1530.
