Jehu Tyson, son of John and Bethany Hines Tyson was born in Beautfort County, North Carolina in 1750. He married Millie (Mildred) Moye who was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Gardner Moye in Pitt County in 1773. Jehu served in the North Carolina militia in the Revolutionary War under the command of Capt. Falcomer.

"Family tradition indicates that Jehu and his eldest son came to Anson County, spent one year here and found this to be a Godly land. He returned to Pitt County and brought his family prior to 1790. It is also told that Millie was an accomplished equestrienne and that she rode horseback into Anson County."

"Jehu built a cabin on a knoll north of Brown Creek and southwest of Palmetta Branch. This spot has been called the 'Old House Piece'. It is told that he cut a tree partially through and made a chair in the yard for Millie to sit in to spin and weave. The cabin was situated just north of the Tyson-Wheless Cemetery where Jehu, Millie and some descendants are buried."
